Summer holidays

Mmm... being honest at this time I don´t thought about it and on second thought and the summer it´s just around the corner and I haven´t any plans. Although maybe could be by the fact of that the end of semester in the U will be at the end of December and that doesn´t help to motivate at least for the holidays of the end of year. But leaving that aside, for this holidays I would like to repeat the experience of backpaking, I think that was been one of the best moments in my life, although that one was it became very short time, and for that just reach to went to Villarrica, I say just because the plans of one of my friends was go as far south as possible, and after four days on this city I begin my way back and they keeping travel.
That time lasted almost three weeks and I think that it may have been 1 month and even so would still seems short to me, whatever if I wouldn´t can do backpacking then I take out the old reliable, that would be go where my family of south, that is the place more cozy that I know in this place you breathe peace and wood smoke, you can eat on colossal amounts and after that go take a relax on the river or walking around. The last time the I go was the anniversary of the city and was very funny getting drunk with my uncles and cousins, if I go again I expect to repeat that.

Addiction: From coffee and tea to drugs of abuse

The drugs abuse is a serious topic and should be treat like that. Has too many points of view and perspectives, but on this post I would like talk of the perspective of the teenagers and adults about this topic, but always from my point of view.
Teeners (or them that choice use drugs) see on the drugs the way to feel free on a chaotic world, the way to express oneself, and feel fine at the same time. The problem whit this is when the consumption become out of control, because the teen at this moment will try to experience again the first impressions that made feel and the unique way to make it will be (according whit the perspective of the teen) consume more drugs, they want to feel those feelings again but by not reach the expect state he fall into the frustration. Already on this moment the abuse of drugs have become harmful for his organism and the teen will not can rehabilitate for himself.
This previous description would seem too general and it´s right, because I have not taken into account others factors that would can to affect on the situation. Like the social environment of the teen, or what drug is it use, because all of them produce different effects; or the state of mind of the teen when consume drugs, and so on. For example, by I came from the drugs abuse is a common thing on teenagers (I include myself) and the explanations for this would be the geographic location. Cerro navia is a peripheral commune and like all of the periphy of Santiago has been the perfect place for drug traffickers, either for the poverty of the place or the lack of concern on the part of the authorities, i dunno.

Graduate studies

Personaly it draw me many attention the possibility of studying on a graduate school. Actualy I am on biochemistry and this career offers a lot of subjects of specialisation. In my personal opinion I do not have any problem with studying for whole life and for that would course a postgraduate, but the fact of have many subjects to choose can be a problem not knowing which one to choose, because at the moment all of them seems pretty interesting, only the time will tell me which choose. Although if I have to choose right now to do a postgraduate would be a MS degree on Biochemistry of Proteins and Biotechnology.
The place where would do the graduate does not matter too much, either on Chile or abroad, if the place allows develop of the better way the studies, for me it is fine.
Also I have the fear of that if I do the post graduates studies for make research, then this have become useless in the sense of these are not so relevant on the future or don´t need more research :(. I doubt it will happen but it does not happen until it happens to.

Your Future Job...

Actually I want have a job related to what i´m studying now, that´s biochemistry. This career give a variety of choices at the moment to choose a job, because you can perform in three specific areas as investigation, clinical laboratory and industry biochemistry (related more whit the Biochemical engineering).
Industrial biochemistry: it´s oriented to develop biotechnologic process that innovated and improve the production of industrial goods (antibiotics, vaccines, improve seeds, fuels, enzymes, and so on), and systems of prevention and treatment of the pollution. Therefore the biochemical can work in different industries as chemistry, forest, mining, and so on.

Clinical laboratory: in this area the biochemical is part of a team of health, giving a collaboration of high level and quality for diagnostic and tracing of issues. Gets biological samples of pacients and preserves and them interpretes the clinical analisys.

Investigation: this is the fundamental pillar of the biochemistry and in this branch is where develop the most of progress on this science and and talk about this a lot and I mean extend deviate from the main theme.


On all of this branches of the biochemistry, the graduate going to work in a laboratory and that I hope to do as also I hope to do invesigations (is the most interesting to me). This kind of job imply work a lot on indoors, but also imply travel a lot because it is necessary share the knowledge.

What organ(s)/system(s)/substance(s) /sense(s) of the human body is (are) amazing to you?

This time I going to talk about the Pineal gland because without this don´t would be possible have dreams. This gland have a shape of pine cones, hence the name; is located in the epithalamus, near of the centre of brain and between the two hemispheres. The pineal gland produces melatonin, a seratonin derived hormone, a serotonin derived hormone which modulates sleep patterns in both circadian and seasonal cycles. The most salient regulatory factor in the production of pineal melatonin is the daily alternation of light and darkness. Melatonin levels are higher at night than during the day in all organisms studied so far, regardless of their rest-activity patterns.
The pineal exerts its effect on human physiology through a variety of functions: as an endocrine gland, as a transducer, as a regulator of hormones and as a damped circadian oscillator. While the physiological significance of pineal indoles other than melatonin, and of pineal peptides, has not been thoroughly investigated in humans, melatonin is known or suspected to be involved in mediating all these functions. Extensive animal research has linked pineal melatonin to the expression of seasonal rhythmicity in many mammalian species, to the modulation of circadian rhythms, and to sleep regulation. In addition, reproductive physiology, cardiovascular, and immunological regulation, as well as psychiatric disorders, have been placed under the sphere of influence of this hormone.

Best concert ever

The concert that I went was the Legalize Festival on the 2014, and was epic. The concert was in november (sunday i think remember) and for these days it was still on the high school. When we heard with my friends of the event we knew immediately that we should go, but we had no money for pay the tickets, were approximately 25 "lukas"*, and as we had no money then we decide that we pass over to the concert. By then we thought that the concert would be on the Nacional Stadium, but the day of the event we found out that it changed the concert site to the "espacio broadway", and we didn´t know what to do, where is it!, how to get!!, we soon realize that everything is on internet and it was quite easy to get. The real problem would be the free pass to the concert, because at the moment when we get, we realize that is was full of security. After a while of go around the place, our alternatives are reduce to convince the people that was in the same situation as us to do a "avalancha", or sneak out for a improvised way through a lot of trees with thorns. As the first alternative it was done less likely, we chose the trees. Then we come a hidden place where we can climb up the grille and after a tense climb we achieved pass.
The place was a huge park with two stages and in the moment that we pass there was a artist that we don´t know it, but what is had was a pool and we don´t hesitate to get in. At the afternoon they begin the main dish, like "Los jaivas" or " The wailers". But the more epic moment was when come out at stage Deep purple, they played all the classics songs, each member was do it a big solo (like of the Ian Paice), and as always they still have the quality technique on stage, although Gillan could do it his clasic shouting.

A country that i would like to visit

Exist too many options every time that I make this question to myself. There is always a different country as answer, and that depends on how much favoritism have for a country at some point, something like controlled by the mood. But in this time, the country that i would prefer to visit is Iceland

The most enjoyable subject thus far...

I think it would be hasty to say which is my favorite subject, until now has been two subjects that have my attention. One of this is "razonamiento y comunicación científica" by teacher Daniela Seelenfreund and Dante Miranda, they are responsible to guide and introduce in the world of scientist and specifically in the labour of biochemistry in the world. To make it possible, in classes have been done various project, consisting of analysis certain papers and here where become insteresting the subject by paper´s content. By the way at the beginning there were speeches of several special guest like doctors and newly qualified students with the purpose of motivating for continue study.

The other subject would be " Técnicas de laboratorio químico" by Aida Ahumada, but support for other teacher like assistant. Here it is given more importance at the practicalities over the theoretical aspects, which it is quite nice for someone who never had experience in laboratories (like me), and although the experiments carried out in classes seems to be easy, does not detract from the importance that will have future.
In summary I would could say easily that my favorite subject is "técnicas de laboratorio químico", but only would be for practical work and I would leaving aside the theoretical level being the basis of the practice.

expert that you admire

Who is a person/expert on your field that you admire?

The person that I admire is Albert Hofmann (11 january 1906-29 april 2008). He was a swiss scientist, his main interest was the chemistry of plants and animals, and he later conducted important research on the chemical structure of the common animal substance chitin, but he es better know because for being the first person to synthesize, ingest, and learn of the psychedelic effects of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD).

When I say that admire this person, I dont try to sound like a junkie, I just had the possibility of read a book from him, titled "Insight Outlook", this book leads me on an exploration of reality perception, where our newly discovered insights are drawn into intellectual meditation. I understood that the reality is approached as a combination of subjective and objective truths, which must be unified for ultimate awareness. That is what I recover of him, the call to be openmind, not to give importance to what happens superficially, question what happens around us and seek answers.

to finish, I will quote the description of the effect experienced hofmann. "I perceived an uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors." 

About pets, love and frienship

Along of my life I just have a only pet that I truly loved, her name was "mindy" and was the most talented dog that i´ve seen, most dogs must be taught tricks, she was so "choriza" that she learned tricks on her own, like stand up an dance for some food, climb the grille of the house, also she left her empty plate outside the door and then knocking the door whit her tail to fill it, for example; pitifully their existence in this cruel world ended 3 years ago, I still without understand what happened to her, the only thing I know is that it was the saddest day in history [thanks teacher to remember me :´(].  I don´t have a photo, but you can imagine like scrat of the ice age movie.
its huge bulging eyes could transform a day of disgust on a day that was worth having lived.

After a while, my best friend gift me a hamster for may overcome my sadness (I comment his my like for the hamsters), which I call niples, but I was not preparaded to care, the emptiness in my heart was so big that a hamster could never fill :(, even that I suffered when he was, for the the window, perhaps gobbled by a cat, but best for him, I did not like to see him locked in his cage, I would have done the same.

A photograph you like

when I took this picture, it had been a normal day, nothing out of common life (really dont remember that happened that day, but doesn´t matter), but when i was walking on the block i was tripping whit the sky and felt the need of take a photo, i was even spent a long time observing and after to take the picture i played whit filters and finally remained like the second picture. At the end it not proved to be a common day and current, because every time i look the gloaming in the sky I feel it is not a day more, that every detail, like this, can be a scape of the routine

 I couldn´t say wich is my favorite, ´cause i don´t have it. All this books may give a different point of view in your life. Is not useless to say if you can read any book of philosophy, JUST DO IT.

I think not have a good films culture in my mind, but some time ago they recommended me a interesting movie ( I have not yet seen). That is A beautiful mind, it is about a schizophrenic mathematician.

My favourite piece of technology

My favourite piece of technology is the printing machine, because meant a revolution for the writers. Imagine all the effort to the scribes for reproduce books of thousands pages!!!.
Thanks to this masterpiece of technology you can read any book at any time, a wonderful invention for people that appreciated read hard copy books in the place of read virtually, like to computer, cellphones or watherver, i tide. and thats is mi story. (030)

your dream jobs when you were child?

when I was child I would have liked to be a chef. I felt a special interest to the kitchen thanks to my mom cook like the gods.

other career options that you had at the moment of applying to university?

I really had a lot career options in my mind before enter to the university, which they divided in two "category", on the one hand was the knowledge scientist (mainly the chemistry and biology), on the other hand I had the humanistic knowledge (like anthropology, sociology and philosophy), but it is out the career whit too much maths, like any type of engineering.

 what made you decide in the end?

Because biochemistry mixes rightly the areas of the science that I like most.

PRESENTATION

Alvaro Pereira is my name, I from a rural town in the south of Chile, called Curanilahue although only live 11 months in that place, because my mother broke whit my father and she left the town for went to Santiago, I tell it this because I grow up without father figureL, I tried to saw my brother like just one, but I looked a little weird, also tried to saw in my stepfather, but I never looked like a real father.

Even so I have a good childhood in the neighbourhood. I studied in INBA where I make it a really good friends and memorable moments. I went to the U of Chile with my suitcase full of dreams and illusions.
